Systematic Review Examines Prebiotics and Synbiotics on Cardiometabolic Measurements in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

In a systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers evaluated twenty RCTs with a total of 1271 participants noting high-quality evidence supporting prebiotics’ effects, alone or as part of synbiotics, in reducing body-mass index as well as medium-quality evidence for weight, waist-to-hip ratio and triglycerides improvements in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). the interventions were between 8 and 12 weeks, with 10 of the studies using prebiotics and 10 synbiotics. Twelve of the studies used inulin or FOS, five used fiber, one used psyllium and two used dextrin.
