Study Evaluates Impact of Administration of Oral Serum-Derived Bovine Immunoglobulin on Dysbiosis
According to a study published in Springer Nature, researchers, in a cross-sectional, single-site study with each participant serving as their own control, examined the stool samples from 18 patients with either IBS or IBD before and after serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin (SBI) administration (5 grams per day for 30 days). The relative abundance of bacterial diversity was assessed using metagenomic next-generation sequencing-based profiling. The researchers confirmed the prebiotic effects of SBI suggesting possible applications for IBD and IBS symptoms, wherein SBI re-establishes homeostasis in patients by decreasing Proteobacteria and increasing Bifidobacteria and species diversity.
