Preclinical Model Supports Prebiotic Activity of Unique Carrot Extract

A recent study involving 4 adult subjects, examined the impact of a carrot-derived pectin extract enriched for rhamnogalacturonan I (cRG-I) using M-SHIME technology (The Simulator of the Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem) finding enhanced levels of short chain fatty acids including acetate, propionate, and to a lesser extent butyrate. The results coincide with a marked increase of taxonomic units related to Bacteroides dorei and Prevotella species on a consistent basis between donors despite their diversity and support the prebiotic activity of the extract.
